Samsung has agreed to pay Microsoft its royalty fee on every Android device it sells. The amount being settled between the two has not been disclosed. But with this settlement, Samsung has saved itself from being sued by Microsoft. The royalty will go to Microsoft on both Android phones and tablets.
Now Google has to give this money from its own pockets apparently as users do not pay Google for using Android, but Google will now have to pay for the same to Microsoft. This is all due to claims of patent infringement against Google’s Android by Microsoft. Even though which patent has been infringed upon has not been mentioned either. At last, Google had to do what it feared the most, or the second most. Though that it has avoided being sued in court for these infringements, but it now has to pay for the royalty, which is not good either.
HTC is also paying royalty to Microsoft for each sold Android device and it has been reported that Microsoft is making better money from HTC selling Android phones than it is making by selling its own Window Phone 7 devices. What does it all mean for the consumers though is that they can get the better out of it with more competitive technology for their services in future. Already more than 10 million Samsung Galaxy S II devices have been sold before being introduced in the United States. This all means good money for Microsoft.
