Umar Saif has been spending his efforts into bringing internet-style networking for millions of Pakistanis. The good news is that he has been recognized recently by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as one of the world’s top young technology innovators. Pakistan has been producing world class geniuses in every field. Umar Saif is the latest addition in the list of intellectual Pakistanis.
Umar Saif is trying to make ordinary citizens, who do not use much technology in their lives, but do have a cell phone, to understand different ways to use their mobile devices to optimum. He has been working on this aim since 2005, when he returned to Pakistan after completing his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Cambridge.
Shortly after his return, Pakistan faced one of its worst earthquake disasters. Seeing the situation of coordination in the shambles, he decided to made use of his expertise and created a computer program that allowed text messages to be sent to thousands of people simultaneously. To avail the service users had to sign up for this service.
There is a specific given phone number subscribing to which users could coordinate extensively and easily. This is almost like social networking that goes on the internet. He did the same, but for telecommunication. He is now an Associate Professor at the Lahore University of Management Science. He is also currently working on other different projects that will make better connectivity and networking of cell phones through using internet.
