Interestingly, Leonardo DiCaprio who has been seen only involved in efforts to protect the environment outside of the movie-making business, will now be involved in a social media project for mobiles. Though that social media is very significant and emerging catalyst for change in this modern world of technology, but DiCaprio is thoughtful enough to step into this whole deal before anyone else has actually done in Hollywood.

We have seen Ashton Kutcher and other celebrities especially being very excited about the usefulness of Twitter, the microblogging website, which can be a means of sharing information and generating awareness in a democratic society, but they too have not been taken on advisory boards of any of the tech companies. DiCaprio took the lead on this one when a photo-sharing application, Mobli asked him to advise the company. He has participated in a $4 million first round of funding for the company along with other private investors.

Although, Mobli’s CEO, Moshiko Hogeg, accepts the fact that DiCaprio does not know anything related to technology, but that is not the point of his involvement. The company is interested in branding and marketing and DiCaprio fits the job description perfectly when it comes to these things. He will only be looking at the image aspect of the company. Mobli aims to have the same impact with mobile users that YouTube has for internet users. DiCaprio has invested in real estate and stock market before and knows how to make business deals and handle image.
