Telenor Pakistan has donated 100 mobile phones including free air time to the Pakistan Army. The handsets with SIMs were handed over by Muhammad Farooq Shaikh, Regional Director Sales & Distribution, Central-3 to Maj-Gen Nadir Zeb, General Officer Commanding, 1st Armoured Division, Multan Cantt. on Aug 27, 2010. The initiative comes on the heels of Telenor Pakistan’s earlier pledge of Rs100 million toward flood relief efforts’.

Telenor Pakistan receives Rs68 Million from DTAC Thailand for flood relief

ISLAMABAD, August 31, 2010: Telenor Group’s operating company DTAC Thailand handed over a cheque of Rs68 million to Telenor Pakistan here today as its contribution toward the ongoing flood relief efforts.

To announce the donation a press conference was organized by Telenor Pakistan at a local hotel. Present on the occasion from Telenor Pakistan were Aamir Ibrahim, Vice President Corporate Affairs & Chief Strategy Officer; and Affan Haider, Head of Corporate Communications & Responsibility. DTAC was represented by Thana Thienachariya, Chief, Corporate Affairs & Strategy; and Wansit Saiyawan, Department Head, Corporate Affairs, PR & Communication.

Addressing the press conference Thana Thienachariya said: “DTAC and its employees have a long tradition of reaching out to communities in their time of need. As soon as we learnt about the devastating floods in Pakistan and the widespread destruction they have caused, DTAC Management decided to commit funds toward Pakistan’s flood relief efforts. We also made a passionate appeal to our employees to donate generously. By contributing the equivalent of Rs68 million to the relief efforts we hope we are able to help in some small way toward lessening the loss and grief that the people of Pakistan are facing due to these destructive floods.”

Aamir Ibrahim thanked employees of DTAC and members of its Management for personally coming to Pakistan to hand over their donation. “Your contribution will help make a huge difference to the lives of thousands of flood affected people by helping rebuild their livelihoods and overcome their immediate difficulties,” he said. “Such generous donations help Telenor Pakistan reinforce its commitment to help the flood affected, especially through long-term sustainable rehabilitation projects that are in line with the local needs.”

Last month, following the large-scale devastation caused by the floods, Telenor Pakistan pledged Rs100 million toward the flood relief efforts and entered into a partnership with Pakistan Red Crescent Society.

one-third of the pledged amount has already been spent on purchasing relief goods and medicines. These will support 6,000 families across Pakistan and comprise 15-days rations and medicine supplies.

Telenor Pakistan employees are also donating funds of their own. Until now, they have collected close to Rs10 million. The company has promised to match all employee contributions four times over. Other fund-raising methods being employed include donations through SMS, easypaisa and donation boxes placed at Telenor Sales & Service Centers. Special telethons on various TV channels and Radio stations are being held to raise additional funds and increase awareness of the issues being faced by the flood affected. Telenor Pakistan employees across the country are assisting further with the relief activities through volunteer efforts, carrying out assessments and distributing food, non-food items and helping with medical supplies.

All additional funding received will be used to facilitate rehabilitation of communities affected by the floods. A plan to rebuild some of the affected schools is already being chalked out with the help of partners.

The senders of funds from abroad can transfer the money through the wide network of Xpress agents present in more than 80 countries including United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and United Kingdom. A transaction ID will be generated on sending the amount which, along with the CNIC, are required to claim the funds through all Telenor Pakistan Sale & Service Centers, Franchises and Tameer Microfinance Bank outlets. International remittances can play a valuable role in providing foreign exchange, but more importantly, also offer significant potential to support incomes of poor and vulnerable groups. Tameer Bank has been given a member status of Pakistan Remittances Initiative (PRI). Telenor Pakistan Management volunteered recently to assist in the ongoing relief efforts in Charsadda, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. They took active part in the registration of coupons, offloading relief goods from trucks and distributing them among the affected families. Relief items were distributed among 402 families during the day. Here they can be seen being briefed by a Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) team member before the distribution. Telenor Pakistan pledges Rs100 Million for Flood Affectees

5^th August, 2010. Islamabad. Telenor Pakistan has pledged Rs. 100 Million in funding and telecommunication services, towards relief and rehabilitation of flood affectees. The amount will be used to facilitate immediate relief efforts and longer term rehabilitation initiatives by Pakistan Red Crescent Society.

Chief Strategy Officer and VP Corporate Affairs, Telenor Pakistan, Aamir Ibrahim said, “In this hour of need, where millions have been affected by devastating floods across the country, Telenor Pakistan stands by its brethren. Have separate official and personal numbers: Keep you personal number always on, and switch off your business Double Number after office hours and enjoy uninterrupted quality family time.

Maintain your Privacy and Security: If you have to give your number to someone you do not want to receive calls from after a certain time period; you can always just give them your double number. You can also use your Double Number to call unknown numbers if you don’t want everybody to know your primary number.

Double Numbers for Double Businesses: If you require 2 numbers for your business, you can do so on the same SIM

Separate Friends Circles: While your family and close friends are in touch with you on your primary number, you can give your acquaintances your Double Number which you can switch off at any time.

It’s hard to avoid you now: If you are trying to reach someone who is intentionally not taking your calls or responding to your messages, a call from a new Double Number might do the trick.

Screen unwanted calls: You can maintain a block list for on your Double Number, if you do not wish to receive calls of SMS from certain numbers.

Get a second number without the hassle: Get a new number for yourself without losing important messages or contacts from your device and revert to your original number whenever you feel like it. This way you can easily maintain 2 numbers without the hassle of multiple bills, networks, mobiles or even SIMs

Charges:

	Subscription Charges: Rs.30+Tax/Mon (Re.1+Tax/Day from next month)
	Call Charges (On-Net/ Off-Net): Rs. 1.30+Tax per Minute
	SMS Charges (On-Net/ Off-Net): Rs.0.50+tax/SMS
	660 IVR Charges: Re. 1+Tax/Minute

Terms and Conditions:

	Service will be available for both pre-paid and post-pay users.
	Users can get a Double number through an SMS/IVR & USSD.
	Only one Double number can be mapped against one primary number.
	Double Number will be provided to Ufone customers from an inventory, which is specifically reserved for this service.
	Billing will be done on Primary number only. Service is not designed for Incoming/Outgoing international roamers.
	International calls & SMS from double number will not be allowed.
	Double Number will be assigned against the primary number. Assigned MSISDNs will not be available for anyone else.
	Since Double number will be attached with active primary number hence customer’s record will also be available in Cares. Customer’s NIC or Passport Number is not required for the activation. Customer does not need to visit any Ufone service centre or franchise to obtain the DN.
	Balance transfer is not possible through Double number, as it will only be used for CLI purpose.
	Users can’t avail SMS and voice buckets on Double Number.
	Users having SMS buckets will be charged Rs.0.50/SMS for each sms they will send to Double Number.
	Users cannot port-out their Double number.
	Double number will automatically become idle after 6 months once the primary number port-out.
	If user has voice & SMS bucket & makes call or send SMS from DN then will be charged as per DN charges.
	Other VAS services cannot be used through DN.

Telenor Pakistan, partners organize Leadership Conference for PWDs in South Asia

July 31, 2010, Islamabad: The Regional Leadership Conference for Persons with Disabilities in South Asia 2010 was inaugurated at a local hotel today.
The three-day conference has been organized by Special Talent Exchange Program, SightSavers Pakistan and Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education in partnership with Telenor Pakistan’s flagship corporate responsibility program ‘Khuddar Pakistan’.
Some 80 leaders of organizations working on issues related to persons with disabilities (PWD) from Pakistan as well as dignitaries from Bangladesh, Japan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and US are also attending.”
Chief Guest at the occasion, Vice President Corporate Affairs and Chief Strategy Officer Telenor Pakistan Aamir Ibrahim while commenting on the event said: “Through Telenor’s Khuddar Pakistan program we aim to provide the disabled community of Pakistan with integration and inclusion opportunities. We believe that a platform like the Leadership Conference enables participants to devise ways and means to resolve the issues that they face. It is also an opportunity for government and corporate sector stakeholders to get a clear perspective on steps necessary to mainstream Persons with Disabilities.”

Country Director, Sightsavers Pakistan, Niazullah Khan appreciated the initiative as a positive step towards inclusion of Persons with Disabilities. He said: “We are extremely satisfied with how the conference has progressed from a national initiative last year, to a regional one during 2010.
We are sure that the conference will achieve its desired results and will continue to grow as a potent platform for Persons with Disabilities”.

Others who spoke at the inauguration were Muhammad Atif Sheikh, President, STEP; Akiie Nino Miya, Executive Director, APCD; Dong Lin Li, Country Director, ILO Pakistan; Toshiya Sapo Chief of JICA; and Adam Thomson, British High Commissioner to Pakistan.

The conference is expected to provide various stakeholders with an understanding of upcoming developments in the disability sector and the needs of persons with disabilities. It will close on August 2.
