Telenor finally launches long awaited Call Blocking Service. Now enough of being fun for someone whose only purpose is to get on your nerves. Telenor Call Blocker service subscribers can ban any call from any number whether landline or mobile phone. One the users has blocked a number, he/she will no longer receive call from that number and a recording will be played by service. Subscribers can also change the recording to a busy tone or a ringing tone. Telenor, Djuice launches another Package Day Night or ‘Din Raat’ which allows its subscribers to call to their Friend and Family (FnF) numbers at very low rates. Subscribers can talk to their FnF list for Rs. 2.5+Tax/Hour from 11 PM to 5PM.

Decline in Telenor Pakistan ARPU in 2nd Quarter 2009- EBITDA, Revenue Increased

A decline in Average Return per User/Unit (ARPU) of Telenor Pakistan is seen in the second quarter of 2009 but Revenues and Earnings before Income Tax are increased. Number of users is increased by 311000 to 908,000 last quarter from 597,000 last year. But the ARPU is decreased to Rs. 235 in the second quarter as compared to Rs. 248 during last year second quarter.

As the number of subscribers in increased, there is an increase of 7% in total revenues. Higher the revenues higher is the Earning before Income , Tax , Depreciation , Amortization (EBITDA) i.e. 19% increase. The 2^nd quarter EBITDA of Telenor is reported 23% which is the highest quarterly EBITDA so far. Capital Expenditure decreased due to less investment for network expansion.

Telenor Pakistan posts strong results for Q2 2009

Islamabad (Thursday, July 23, 2009): Telenor Pakistan has posted strong results for Q2’09, growing its Q-o-Q revenues by 8% and netting 908k subscribers compared to 597k in the previous quarter.
The Q-o-Q subscriber growth of 52% has come at a time of significant industry competition and market challenges. With approximately 20.9 million subscribers at the end of Q2’09, Telenor Pakistan has exceeded industry average growth and strengthened its No.2 market share position. Quarterly growth of 19% in EBITDA in the second quarter signifies the success of the company in enhancing its operational efficiency even as the industry struggles with high costs of doing business in the local market.
Executive Vice President and Head of the Telenor Asia Operations, Sigve Brekke expressed his confidence in how Telenor Pakistan was growing in the face of economic challenges in the market: Brekke said, “We are very pleased to see that the Telenor Group companies in Asia deliver good results even in tough times. The second quarter figures re-confirm the importance of this region in Telenor, and we are excited about continuing to be a part of the development of the mobile industry in Asia. We are committed to Telenor Pakistan, and we are impressed with the effort our colleagues in Pakistan have shown in delivering good results.”

As a routine practice, misleading consumers through massive print and electronic media campaigns by the telecom companies is still on. Recently, a Norwegian Telecom company operating in Pakistan launched a package says, “talk seven hours against seven rupees. It means Rs. 1/- for 60 minutes.

While getting into the details,I came to know that they are actually charging Rs. 0.20 per 30 seconds which means rupees 24/- per hour and Rs. 168/- against seven hours. Seven rupees are the activation charges on daily basis of this package which is not mentioned anywhere in their advertisement.

I request the regulatory authority to probe this dilemma and derive a system to stop the culure of misleading and cheating in disguise.

The recent flashy package launched by Telenor with a huge media campaign offers its customers to talk seven hours for just rupees seven. This is completely misleading and a big lie. I got into details only to be shocked that seven rupees that are being highlighted in the media are the per-day activation charges to bring down the normal call tariff to Rs. 0.20 per 30-seconds during those seven hours, and Telenor is actually charging Rs.0.20 per 30 seconds which means rupees 168 for seven hours conversation.

I wonder do we have any marketing ethics or is there some regulatory body watching these big fish robbing us all. This company should be given a taste of its own medicine by asking them to allow customers to actually talking Rs 1 per hour and not Rs 24 which it is extracting from its customers.

To be honest its the funniest and stupidest Telenor Print ad I have ever seen. Same old strategy is being adopted which all new businesses or unknown business apply. The ad itself is not promising and not representing Telenor at all. Though Annie is there but she cant do everything alone. All the guys dancing and all stupid captions make the advertisement worse.

If customer has enough balance i.e. Rs. 8.37/-, the amount will be deducted from his account and he/she will receive the following message from service:
