Where is Social Media Taking Us?

A lot of time these days online is being spent in one way or another on social networking sites. Social media has come to play a major role in internet users online activities. It seems as though there are just blogs to read, or to write, any social network to connect with contacts to, any online video site to watch our favourite items, or just merely chatting. What has happened to reading useful sites and logging on to them? There is plethora of sites available on every subject from A to Z.

Most of the times, people who do engage with social media spend their time either writing blogs or commenting on the blogs written by others. Some say that these blogs are really helpful in delivering the news and gathering public opinions. Others believe that they are merely a feel-good thing that something active is being done about issues facing us every day at local, national and global levels. But whatever side that you take on, this is true that blogs have come to represent a significant medium of their own.

The social media hence is making people active at least in some regard. Sharing of ideas, even though initially might not lead to something substantial, but then does spark up further ideas that may inspire some solution. What is required is an imaginative ability and a creative touch to the whole thing. In countries like Pakistan, where there are not many platforms for public discussion, social media is one place where some can vent their thoughts.

Sony Approaches Sorkin for a Movie on Steve Jobs

Sony is now working toward getting Aaron Sorkin, who was the screenwriter of Sony’s last year’s hit film “Social Network”, to do a screenplay for Walter Isaacson’s biography on the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who was also an executive of Pixar. Hence, the entertainment community of Hollywood is quick on paying their homage to the tech genius in the way it best could, that of making a movie on his life.

Since this whole idea is still being worked into, hence, who would be the Hollywood Steve Jobs has not been talked about yet. On the other hand, Aaron Sorkin’s response to the whole deal is that of being unable to decide whether he could deliver again. Mark Zuckerberg was already a hero before 2010 having his own group of loyal fans, but with the movie, that score has definitely gone higher. Though, Zuckerberg did not take part in any way into the film project on his life and creativity.

For sure Apple’s fans would like to see a movie on their favourite personality in the Hollywood style. Given Sorkin’s past work experience, he certainly does fit to write a screenplay for the project. It was also reported that Sorkin had been asked by Jobs previously to write for the animated movie studio, Pixar, but that he declined the offer. But maybe Sorkin would not flinch on having another shot at a project sure to succeed. Already Jobs’ biography has gone number one in Amazon’s bestseller chart.

Google+ Seeking Popularity Again

Though that the launch of Google+ on September 20 brought in a lot of new users reaching millions in number, but the new social networking site has seen a drop in traffic of about 60%. Though most users are eager to use the service for which they joined the social network initially, but somehow they found no reason to come back to it. Primarily because most users’ contacts are still on other social networking sites, especially Facebook, the slowness in traffic is equal to that of pre-launch level according to the data analytics company Chitika.

When Google+ was launched it had a traffic upsurge of 1269% on September 26, but since then it has been on the decline day in and day out. Most people being already on Facebook which has everything already that Google+ has, there is no reason for users to make the change in their social network.

Although, Google+ tried new things so that it won’t look like just another Facebook and due to being different in its presentation and some of the facilities, especially of Google Hangout, users did come to like it and thought that it will be their new thing. But since other contacts were not willing to make the change, those who did come now got back to their previous social network. Now, for Google+ to be successful it really must give a reason to switch to its own network, just as Facebook gave the reason for people to switch from MySpace, whose popularity at that time was thought impossible to break.

Social Networking Websites – Good or Bad?

You must be on at least one social networking website. These are the community websites who promise to connect you to the whole world. You can find people from every corner of the world. They can chat, share their pictures, videos. They can comment on each other status. In short you can be in touch with any one around the globe any time. But the question is, is it Good or Bad? Well I have my opinion. To me it’s good to some extent and bad to other extent.

Goods:

It’s good as you can be connected to the whole world and you can chat and share your stuff very easily with the other people.
It’s good as you get connected to some of your lost friends.

Bads:

The new generation is crazy about Social Networking Websites, they leave their studies just to make new friends and chat with them.
They spent their half time in front of computers leaving many important things behind.
On Social Networking Websites we can see some immoral and unethical pictures and that’s too bad.

Unless the use of time is proper, it’s good. As it is rightly said Excess of any thing is bad. So these are good unless they are being used for good purpose.
