Asasah becomes first MFI to use Easypaisa for loan repayments

Asasah has become the first NGO and micro-finance institution (MFI) to utilize Telenor Pakistan and Tameer Microfinance Bank’s Easypaisa services for repayment of small loans. The facility will significantly reduce the inconvenience for Asasah’s clients, who are mostly women, to pay back the loans they take out from the NGO.

Asasah customers, after receiving a loan from any of Tameer Bank’s 100 branches will be able to return it through any of the 14,000 Easypaisa agents, present in 600 cities and towns across Pakistan.

To announce the partnership, a ceremony was held at a local hotel. Those who attended included Nadeem Hussain, CEO & President Tameer Microfinance Bank; Tabinda Jaffery, CEO Asasah and Syed Mohsin Ahmed, CEO Pakistan Microfinance Network.

In his comments, Nadeem Hussain, President & CEO Tameer Bank said: “Easypaisa services are a fast growing mobile banking solution. Because our aim is to offer inclusion to the unbanked population, every organization that uses Easypaisa services helps us with our mission. With Easypaisa, we hope to bring ease and convenience to customers of Asasah.”

Tabinda Jaffery, CEO Asasah in her remarks said: “Repayment of loans through Easypaisa agents will prove to be an extremely convenient solution for our clients who are all women. The facility will help in our aim to improve the quality of life of financially poor and socially deprived people by offering them small loans to enhance their productivity.”

Talking about the need for financial inclusion, Syed Mohsin Ahmed, CEO Pakistan Microfinance Network said: “At Pakistan Microfinance Network, we believe that the future of financial inclusion lies in building synergies to provide financial services to the low income segment through alternative delivery channels. This initiative will help MFIs like Asasah provide value added services to its customers and help improve its outreach geographically. We hope that other MFIs would follow in the same footsteps and build partnerships with Banks/MNO to provide access to financial services.”

Telenor Pakistan sponsors awareness walk to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities

An awareness walk was held today with the aim to promote a better understanding of disability issues and to raise awareness among the public about the rights of persons with disabilities. Telenor Pakistan sponsored the event as part of its Khuddar Pakistan program to commemorate International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), which is held every year on December 3.

Major partners of the walk included the Directorate General of Special Education, Social Welfare, Child Welfare & Development and STEP (Special Talent Exchange Program). Organizations that participated included Saaya Association, Pakistan Association of the Blind, Iradah Foundation, and Ministry of Human Rights.

The participants — which included persons with disabilities, representatives of both public and private sector Disabled Persons Organizations, and Telenor Pakistan employees — began the walk on Jinnah Avenue starting from China Chowk and ending near Parliament House. Special permission was obtained from the authorities for the walk to take place.

Anjum Rahman, Director Corporate Communications & Responsibility, Telenor Pakistan speaking on the occasion said: “The purpose of our Khuddar Pakistan program is to help create dignity for persons with disabilities by working with them and highlighting their abilities. We have been working with our partners for the past two years as part of our corporate responsibility initiatives. One of our major achievements has been the ratification by the government of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. We hope today’s walk will help in implementation of the Convention.”

Fazli Wadood, Director (Special Education), Islamabad in his comments said: “With more than 10% of Pakistan’s population having some kind of disability, it is imperative that this large section of our society is given its due rights. Rehabilitation of persons with disabilities and inclusion in mainstream work will enable this segment to become productive citizens of Pakistan. I appreciate the work being done by Telenor Pakistan in this field and its efforts to empower disabled persons organizations and disabled persons.”

In other cities too Telenor Pakistan observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. In Lahore, it co-sponsored an event organized by the Rotary Club Lahore Garrison where speakers highlighted the work of their organizations in rehabilitating persons with disabilities. In Nawabshah, Telenor Pakistan is sponsoring a day-long seminar on December 10, the objective of which is to provide insights into the issues of disability inclusion.

Easypaisa the branchless banking solution goes down from yesterday in Pakistan.

People across the country sending and receiving money due to that there is an extra load on the Telenor’s network and from past two days the link is down due to that people are facing problem.

In this special moment of EID, people are unable to make any transaction in both telenor franchise and on retailers. They are waiting for their turn in long que but at the end they left without any hope.

According to media reports ATM network is also not working and people are facing temporary disconnected from network error or out of cash,so at this time easypaisa is also not meeting the demand and goes down.

Telenor Joins Hand With Sybrid for contact center outsourcing

Telenor Pakistan has signed an agreement according to which it will outsource part of its customer services operations to Sybrid. For the purpose, Sybrid will establish a contact center in Islamabad which will initially comprise 100 customer relations officers but with the capacity to move to 500 depending on business needs. The agreement was signed by Christian Albech, CEO Telenor Pakistan and Iqbal Ali Lakhani, Chairman Lakson Group & CEO Sybrid at a local hotel today.

Lakson Group has also agreed to port-in to Telenor Pakistan 800 of its postpaid business connections. In addition, Lakson Group will look at the possibility of opening Easypaisa accounts for salary disbursals to 10,000 of its factory workers spread across 15 group companies.

Christian Albech, CEO Telenor Pakistan speaking about the mutually beneficial partnership said: “Telenor Pakistan is strongly focused on enhancing its customer services. Now PIA Ticket Payment can be made through Easypaisa

PIA passengers will now be able to pay for their air tickets at any Easypaisa shop, Telenor Pakistan Sales & Service Center, Tameer Bank branch or from their own mobile phones via an Easypaisa Mobile Account.

An agreement between PIA and Tameer Microfinance Bank for the provision of the services was signed by Nadeem Hussain, President Tameer Microfinance Bank and Managing Director PIA, Captain Nadeem Khan Yousufzai. The signing ceremony was held at PIA Head Office and attended by officials of Tameer Bank, PIA, and Telenor Pakistan.

Managing Director PIA Captain Nadeem Yousufzai while sharing his comments on the occasion said that PIA passengers will now have an added advantage of Paying for tickets through Easypaisa outlets across Pakistan. “PIA passengers’ comfort and convenience has always been the airline’s priority and this agreement is another facility being offered to passengers. Currently, passengers have the facility of buying PIA tickets from PIA Booking Offices, PIA’s website and airline travel agents. The new facility will expand to facilitate our valued customers,” he said.

Nadeem Hussain, in his comments following the agreement, said: “Easypaisa is delighted to become a partner with PIAC as payment solution provider for their customers, offering them our unique branchless banking facility. Unlike conventional payment services, Easypaisa services are available round the clock and offer customers an alternative payment process which is secure, reliable, and efficient. We are sure that PIA customers will find it more convenient than ever to use Easypaisa outlets when paying for their air tickets.”

As a result of the agreement, a PIA passenger, after getting a PNR (reservation) by calling PIA Call Centre at 111-786-786, will be able to pay at any Easypaisa outlet and get the ticket issued. The receipt and confirmation will be communicated to the customer through an SMS. Passengers will be able to get a print from any of PIA Sales counter throughout Pakistan or from PIA offices at an airport. This can be done anytime even on the day of the flight. The facility is expected to be launched by January 1, 2012.

Telenor Pakistan continues to perform well in Q2 2011

TelenorPakistan, the country’s second largest cellular company, continued to perform well in the second quarter of 2011 according to the latest figures released by the Telenor Group. It added 914,000 subscriptions during the three-month period ending with a total of 26.7 million subscribers, a growth of 12% over the same period last year.

The company’s EBITDA margin has been impressive, growing over three percentage points over the previous quarter, while market share has remained stable at 24%.

Chief Marketing Officer, Telenor Pakistan Aamir Ibrahim, speaking about the solid second quarter figures, said: “I am happy with TelenorPakistan’s performance in the second quarter of 2011. We have been able to sustain growth and keep our EBITDA margin strong despite operating in a challenging business environment. As with previous quarters, we continue to receive recognition; TelenorPakistanand Tameer Bank’s easypaisa won the Shaukat Khanum Social Responsibility Award in recognition of the service’s impact on society of organized philanthropy, an achievement we are proud of.”

Telenor responds to Propakistani’s allegations against easypaisa

Telenor Pakistan has always supported bloggers and considers them to be online journalists. We believe they have a very important role to play in the evolution of media in Pakistan.

Having an opinion and expressing it is the right of every citizen however, a line must be drawn when that opinion distorts and misrepresents facts and damages reputation.

Telenor Pakistan is dismayed by the sensationalistic reporting of a blogger on one of the leading telecom blogs, Propakistani.

In a recent story on Propakistani, http://propakistani.pk/2011/06/07/secret-british-aid-used-to-setup-easypaisa-gets-unveiled/ , the blogger alleges:

“It was recently unveiled that Telenor has secretly used British funds to establish its financial services solution called easypaisa

However, none of the involving parties, including Telenor, Tameer Bank or the British government ever announced the existence or the utilization of this fund.”

The fund is NOT a secret:

- The funding was received by Tameer Microfinance Bank NOT Telenor Pakistan through the State Bank of Pakistan and not directly from UKAid (DFID) or the British government.

- Tameer Microfinance Bank received it from the State Bank of Pakistan’s financial inclusion program under its technology related technical assistance grant for capacity building

- Further details of the grant and its disbursal process are (and have been) on the State Bank’s website so were never a secret

Since it was meant for “technology related technical assistance” it was used by Tameer Microfinance Bank to strengthen agent review and risk management systems and to enhance treasury and payment gateways for home remittances.

UK’s Secretary of State for International Development and Deputy Governor State Bank visit easypaisa outlet

Visiting Secretary of State for International Development for United Kingdom, Andrew Mitchell along with Deputy Governor State Bank Yaseen Anwar visited Tameer Microfinance Bank Limited and Telenor Pakistan’s easypaisa outlet in Karachi today.
They were accompanied by Nadeem Hussain, CEO Tameer Microfinance Bank. The visitors witnessed transactions being carried out at the outlet and discussed advantages of mobile financial services for financial inclusion in Pakistan.

Tameer Bank to provide cash management, service delivery facilities to Asasah

Tameer Microfinance Bank Limited (TMBL) will offer NGO and microfinance institution Asasah cash management and service delivery facilities for loan disbursements and repayments. Asasah clients will be able to receive disbursed loans at any of Tameer’s network of 100 branch banking outlets, as well as at any 1Link ATM in the country, and repay the loans via easypaisa’s branchless banking solution.

A formal agreement to this effect was signed at Tameer’s head office here today between Nadeem Hussain, President & CEO Tameer Microfinance Bank Limited and Tabinda Jaferry, CEO Asasah in the presence of Yaseen Anwar, Deputy Governor, State Bank of Pakistan.

Which Mobile Account Should You Open?

Now where should you go for mobile account omni or easypaisa, Both offering the same services and both have pros and cons.Omni is charging less as compared to easypaisa and if you have ubl account and you open omni you can avail these services free for limited time period.And the thing which i like in easypasia is there ussd service, you can access your account just by dialing*786# and everything is on your screen,but for this you need telenor number and suppose if you like easypaisa and want to open easypaisa mobile account but you don’t use telenor for calls sms etc in this way you need to carry two cells or telenor sim in your wallet .But Omni account can be open on any number which you are using.

In Omni you have to remember sms commands and then send it to 8257 here Easypaisa have edge over Omni.If you want to buy jazz 100 card your command for this will be < Buy J100> and send it to 8257 and you can also avail all these services by using internet.
